Sustainability in Art ~ Assemblage Works of Art

Image

So much focus is placed upon sustainability these days and rightfully so.  Focus is commonly placed upon the recycling of metals, papers and more but there are other ways to repurpose objects in order to make our environments more lovely places and our landfills less wasteful places.  Create art of otherwise discarded objects.

The work of art pictured above is an assemblage wall hung piece by Beeb Benson and Mary Hong, both Florida Panhandle-area artists.  They use found objects from many places, wherever inspired to collect, to create their delightfully whimsical works.  In this particular piece, objects are arranged to create a form of landscape portrait of a coastal community called Seaside, FL.  The collection of pieces which suggest a specific architectural style along with soft muted colors mirror Seaside’s wonderful environment.

An assemblage is a work of art which is created of found objects.  Assemblage was popularized greatly by European artists such as Pablo Picasso and Marcel Duchamp in the early twentieth century. It make take the shape of both two and three-dimentional forms, wall hung art or sculptural works in all sizes.  Assemblage remains an increasingly popular artform in contemporary works of art.

So, why not get out there, collect items of interest to you and assemble them into meaningful artwork to complement your living spaces.  Naturally, support your local artists’ communities by purchase their fine assemblage works.  To purchase the work of art pictured above and more, contact Cerulean Interiors 850-249-3873, and see other fine works of art at: http://www.ceruleaninteriors.com/Cerulean_Works_of_Local_Art.html.  Thanks for reading!
